This is a blog from Wolf photographer Jamie Karaffa at the Country Throwdown tour on Memorial Day

One minute I'm randomly entering a contest the next I'm winning and on my way to being the "official photographer for The Wolf!"  I was super excited, but had no clue what was in store. I planned to arrive around 12:30.  I ended up sitting in traffic until 1:30-2...UGH!  Not the way you want to start the concert.  I get to "cut" the line and go straight to the Wolf tent to get my Press Pass (a yellow armband).  I was told that I could go to the front of the stage for the 1st three songs of every artist.  I'm thinking... Wow! Front and center watching some of the biggest stars in country!  Ok so I enter the venue...my first thought...Where's the bathroom?!?!  After finding the bathroom and getting some food...now came the marathon. There were 3 stages and for the first 4 hours people were performing on all three sometimes at the same time.  This forced us to randomly pick a stage.  This also meant that we were doing laps back and forth between them and often missing good stars.  I'm pretty sure I must have walked at least 2 miles in the 9 hours of being there.  Our first concert was the Lost Trailors.  I only saw a part of this, but what I saw was good.  We then followed them up to watch an autograph signing with them.  I didn't get in line, but took a lot of pictures up close.  Next came an artist I had never heard of...kind of rock/country.  They sounded really good and I was pretty psyched to hear them sing Why Don't We Just Dance (a song they wrote but recorded by Josh Turner).  I actually liked their version SOOOO much better!  Next we were VERY excited to see  Heidi Newfield!  She was on a stage that you just lined up and watched so we got about 3 rows back from the small stage.  She is a true rocker and so much fun to watch (FAVORITE PERFORMANCE OF THE DAY/NIGHT).  They all warned us that she liked to crowd surf and we laughed thinking....yeah right!  Little did we know that at the end she would just jump into the crowd and surf!!!  One of my favorite pictures of the day is her playing the harmonica...the wind picked up blowing her hair as she moved our way and created a great motion picture!  Now it was back to the main stage.  I got to get up close to the stage and get some awesome pics of Jack Ingram, Eric Church, Little Big Town, Jamey Johnson, and Montgomery Gentry.  I had to run down from my seat in the field to the front of the stage, take pics for the 1st 3 songs, and then run back to my seat to see the rest of the performance. I took about 300 pics of these performances.  I've got to say Montgomery Gentry is one of the hardest groups to photograph because they don't sit still for even a second.  In general taking action photos with my everyday camera is not an easy task.  I had 100s of blurry pics...but it was sooo fun trying to capture a good shot right below the performance!  During the main stage performances I also took part in 2 Meet and Greets.  I was allowed near the tour buses and saw Jack Ingram and Montgomery Gentry really close!  I even got my picture taken with Montgomery Gentry!  After I got my picture taken I got to see a very touching moment.  The Security had let a guy into the Meet and Greet without a pass.  He had some sort of problem with his hand (appeared to be missing fingers, but I didn't get the exact story).  He said that Troy inspired him to play the guitar and it meant so much for him to meet Troy and tell him that he was such an inspiration.  They shook hands and allowed him to get a picture with them as well.  I hope that moment meant as much to Montgomery Gentry as it did to that guy!  Other fun moments: a group doing the Macarena to Little Big Town (strange but hilarious), The Lone Trailors posing in a picture with someone's baby (so cute!)...I was too far to catch the picture! :( , Jamey Johnson singing Give It Away (I'm a huge George fan so it was awesome to find out he sung that song!), security letting me into Meet and Greets (not sure I was really allowed there, but I wasn't going to tell them they were wrong), meeting men that have served our country in the Middle East, and spending the entire experience and day/night with my friend Brynn, her husband Jake, and my mom Cathy (who is responsible for me getting my picture taken with Montgomery Gentry...Thanks Mom!)  Although the day was absolutely exhausting and I ended up sick the next day...I wouldn't have traded that oppurtunity!  Honestly, I wish I could be a photographer for a Concert Venue or a Radio Station and do that all the time!  I would have never guessed that taking random pictures of Springfield, Vermont would get me up and close with some awesome artists!  Thanks Traci and Paul....I'm SOOOO glad you liked my pictures! Oh and anytime you want to "put me to work" I'm definitely in!!! :) :)
