3 Dessert Recipes Made With Fresh Snow That’ll Knock Your Puff Jacket Off

The winter temperatures are here and very soon we will get our first big snow storm. 

This is a time when some New Englanders get excited. To them it means skiing, snowboarding, snow-shoeing, snowmobiling or just winter hiking!  Winter activities are fun and great exercise. 

But there are some who hunker down in the cold months and count the days until spring and warmer weather.  For those people I urge you to embrace winter. Make snow your friend! 

How? Simple, by making snow desserts! Yes, using snow as an ingredient. It’ll keep you busy doing something fun and it’ll make those long cold days go by faster! (We think) 

AND your friends and neighbors will marvel at your creative delicious snowy treats. Here are just a few fun ones from ChefMom.com: 

MAPLE SNOW CONE 

Ingredients: 

  • Clean fresh snow 
  • Maple syrup 

Directions: 

  1. Use a scoop to mound fresh snow in a cup. Drizzle with maple syrup and serve immediately. 

CHERRIES IN THE SNOW 

Ingredients: 

  • 6 egg whites 
  • 3/4 teaspoon cream of tartar 
  • 2 cup sugar 
  • 2 cup saltines crackers, crushed 
  • 1 cup toasted pecans, chopped, plus more for garnish 
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 packages whipped dessert topping or whipped cream 
  • 2 cans cherry pie filling 

Directions: 

  1. Preheat oven to 300 Fahrenheit. 
  2. In a large bowl, beat egg whites with cream of tartar to medium peaks. Add sugar a little at a time and continue beating to still peaks. 
  3. Fold in saltines, pecans and vanilla. Scrape into a casserole. 
  4. Bake 30 minutes. Let cool completely. 
  5. Spread cherry pie filling over cooled crust, then spread whipped topping. 
  6. Refrigerate overnight and sprinkle with nuts before serving. 

REAL SNOW PUDDING

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup milk (or chocolate milk)
  • 1/2 cup superfine sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 6 cups clean fresh snow

Directions:

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the milk, sugar and vanilla until well blended.
  2. Carefully stir in the snow. Freeze, or scoop into bowls, and serveimmediately.
